clean with me!

O h ,  h e l l o !

Spring is finally here in full force. I am loving the longer, sun-filled days. The smell of BBQ, lilacs, fresh cut grass, beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. I don't know about you, but Spring has that "new beginnings" kind of vibe for me. I definitely feel the need to purge, clean and organize that's for sure! I'm working my way through my own cleaning/organizing to-do list and I thought it'd be fun to share with you.

+ makeup and toiletries //  I usually do these every few months because there's always work to be done here. I like to see what I can get rid of, donate or give away and then figure out how to fit it under our sink while still looking nice (lol)

+ file folders and documents // This is one I've been meaning to do for a while and just got started tonight and woweeee is there ever work to be done here! I've started a pile of things that can be thrown out or shredded, and another one of things that need to be filed and organized.

+ cupboard + fridge // I think it's always a good idea to clean these out every few months to make space for unwanted items or things you know you won't use. Also, what better inspiration to get cookin' some delicious meals than a clean, full fridge of fresh goodies?

+ closets // We cleaned out our front hall closet and it's so nice having that space after packing away all of our winter gear! Cleaning the pantry was wonderful too. We also cleaned out out closet and donated 2 large bags of clothing to Canadian Diabetes.

+ patio/backyard/porch // We started doing this the past few weeks, and today I got to plant some new cuties for our garden patio area. I can't wait for this area to be setup with blankets, cushions, string lights and all the plants and flowers we can possibly fit.

+ an online clean up // - Back up photos, unsubscribe from emails, basically do an online purge. I really need to take my own advice here! I have over 25,000 photos on my phone (lol, yes. for real) I really really need to delete thousands of photos and back up everything I have. I also love doing a social media purge and email unsubscribing every few months.

A few more things to mention when it comes to your spring cleaning adventure:
  • Donate, donate, donate - there's tons of different places you can donate to. Pete and I just call up Canadian Diabetes every few months and schedule a pick up right outside our door!
  • Sell some stuff - either online or at local trading/selling shops that will give you store credit or cash for your clothes, shoes, bags etx.
  • Trade / Exchange - Me and my besties had a night like this a few months ago and it was so fun. We each brought stuff we had that we didn't want anymore and traded! Anything from household items, clothes, toiletries, accessories, books etc!

it's bbq season + rufus teague!

B B Q   S E A S O N   I S   *F I N A L L Y*   H E R E!

I'm absolutely loving this beautiful Spring weather here in Toronto. I've got to say one my favourite parts about Spring & Summer is cooking delicious meals on the BBQ! Pete and I are so lucky to have our cute little back patio that gives us the opportunity to hang back there, host and of course cook up some delicious food on the BBQ for ourselves and our guests.

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a blogger event at Barque (one of my favourite places to eat in the city!) for all things BBQ. In other words, this was the event of my dreams! I loveeee BBQ, in fact I'd say it's probably my favourite type of food.

I got to learn all about Rufus Teague BBQ sauce and ohhhh baby, am I glad I now know it exists. The chefs cooked up all kinds of delicious plates using their BBQ sauce, and they were all incredible in their own ways. Also, how can I not mention the fact that their was a fountain of BBQ sauce! I mean, seriously? The best! Chicken Fingers dipped in Rufus Teague = heaven on earth.

The three flavours we tired were Honey Sweet + Touch 'O Heat + Whiskey Maple ♥

Everyone at the event left with some sauce and spices and Pete and I have basically been putting them to use every night! On Sunday night we made fajitas on the BBQ with Touch O' Heat. They! were! so! darn! good!

Follow Rufus Teague on Instagram + Twitter for some serious BBQ inspo for the Summer!
I thought I'd share a little somethin' delicious to make with your Rufus Teague BBQ sauce!:

Brown Sugar Bacon
8 pieces thick cut bacon
1 cup of brown sugar
1 tp of rufus teague meat rub
1 whole wheat tortilla
1 beefsteak tomato, sliced 1/2' thick
1 head of boston lettuce
1 ripe avocado, sliced
1 tbs rufus teague honey sweet bbq sauce

set oven at 400 Degrees
massage bacon with brown sugar and rufus teague meat rub (allow to sit for 3-5 minutes)
set bacon on wire rack + place in oven. allow bacon to crisp up and get crunchy
while bacon is cooking in the oven, slice up veggies
remove bacon from wire rack, cover with foil and retain heat
warm up tortilla in microwave.
once tortilla is nice and warm, slather on a heaping tablespoon (or more!) of your rufus teague honey sweet bbq sauce
add your bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. wrap it up + serve up with some more bbq sauce!

tell me something good!

Oh heyyyyyy there! Happy Wednesday! Is it just me, or are the days and weeks flying by in literally seconds? It's insane. There's so much going on, and so many awesome things.

It's been a while since I've been able to give a little life update and just straight up chat about some great things, because why the heck not? The longer I've been blogging, the more I realize that it doesn't really matter what I post, as long as I'm happy with it. I think this kind of segment will be something I do more often, just sharing the love, ya know!?

And for that exact reason, I present to you some good f*cking things:

+ America by Childish Gambino - Ok, I just can't stop. I want to listen to this song all day everyday. I want to watch the video, I want to tweet at Childish Gambino, I want to shout from the rooftops "this song is everythingggg"

+ Toronto Flower Market - Ooooh baby. It's back, and there's even more than ever before. The Toronto Flower Market is honestly one of my favourite things about Spring/Summer in Toronto. Gimme all 'dem fresh flowers (and please let their be peonies!) I'm super excited to take my mom there this Saturday!

+ We're going to Montreal - I'm SO pumped for this. Pete and I are heading to Montreal for the long weekend and we couldn't be more excited. We've both never explored the city and we can't wait to wander around. We're taking the train there and then flying home, and will be eating a lot of bagels, poutine and drinking all of the coffee.

+ BBQ SZN - It's finally nice out in Toronto (knock on wood!) and Pete and I just filled the propane tank for the BBQ. It's only been a week and dinners have proven to be effing delicious and it feels like we have a world of options! I'm going to be sharing some fun recipes soon on the blog!

+ Buffalo + Hotel Henry - Pete and I headed to Buffalo for the day/night a few weeks ago for a little pick-me-up/Target run (lol) We found this super cool and trendy hotel to stay at there called "Hotel Henry" it was just gorgeous and had so much character and you should definitely stay there if and when you ever go to Buffalo.

+ Edit Seven - Tonight at the event I was at, I got to chat with the lovely Gracie Carroll for a long while. She's so awesome and I am so excited to follow along her new adventure at Edit Seven because my goodness is it ever a breath of fresh air and something we needed here in Toronto (and Canada!)

+ Last year my mom and I went on a little mother/daughter trip and it's becoming an annual thing because why the heck wouldn't it be? I am SO pumped because we're headed to The June Motel next month! (in June, how fitting!) I've wanted to check this gorgeous spot out since it opened and I am excited for a mini getaway with my #1 gal.

There you have it, life is good. SO GOOD! Hope you're having a lovely week!

let's bee besties + the toronto hive!

oh heyyyyy! let's bee besties!

So, there's something very cool happening in Toronto this weekend and as a passionate Torontonian, I feel like it's my duty to tell you all about it! ♥

Have you heard of Bumble? Odds are you've heard of this app in some regard. And I have to say, it's not just for dating anymore. I'm personally excited about all the fun new features as I loveeee to meet new friends and connect with other inspiring women in Toronto. (Bumble BFF & Bumble Bizz!)

If you've got the bumble app, you instantly gain access to the Bumble Hive Pop Up which is happening Friday May 4th - Sunday, May 6th at 950 Queen Street West (Queen + Shaw!)

Bumble will be hosting three days of programming with notable speakers, performers and panels in Toronto. It's open to anyone with an active Bumble profile. I am super excited to head to the hive on Saturday afternoon for an amazing talk and some serious inspiration. I love how good Toronto is about bringing together inspiring women in our community! Yes new friends!

"Bumble is bringing the brand to life in Toronto from May 4th to 6th with a Hive pop-up at 950 Queen St. West. The “female first” app has presented similar spaces in New York, London and L.A. providing users with a fun and interactive opportunity to interact with the brand in person and participate in empowering conversations with leading women. The Bumble Hive Toronto will be no different - guests can expect complimentary entertainment, drinks and snacks, and interactive sessions with Canadian and international thought-leaders and entrepreneurs including Erin Foster, Maria Qamar and Alex Williamson."

18 for 2018.

H e l l o   M a y !

Um, what? As we enter the fourth month of the year, it seems appropriate that I finally share my 2018 goals, lolz. Leave it to me to be so specific that I needed to curate the perfect list.

As I mentioned in a previous post about the Happier podcast, I loved their "try this at home" for new years resolutions/goals. I always love making goals and lists but sometimes it can be tough when things are so general. For example, how do you cross off something like "drink more water" or "take more time to read". I'm one to really love physically crossing something off so this really spoke to me!

I will say this, and that is that I do have some other personal goals that I prefer not to share, but regardless - these are all things I do hope to accomplish this year.

A few things already got crossed off as this has been a work in progress clearly(!!!)

Anyway, HAPPY Spring! Did you make any goals for this year? If not, why not try 18 for 2018?!
